Silent Keys

Kurt Nelson

On 1/19/2023 we lost a long-time member, Kurt Nelson (N0GKO).  Kurt was a member of the Isanti County Radio Club and Isanti County ARES. He was a regular voice on the local 2m repeaters and a welcome check-in on any net. He was always fun to talk to and had a wide range of experience and knowledge. Kurt held an Amateur license from 2016, and was currently an AE.

We’ll miss you, Kurt! 73

Joe Showalter

On 9/13/2021 the ham community lost one of their best, Joe Showalter N0JOL. Joe got his Novice license in 1988 while at 3M and was an avid CW DX chaser. In 2004 Joe moved out to Isanti and a few years later Joe had a tower up and again chasing DX using the straight key. In 2018 Joe retired and became the ARES coordinator for Isanti County. In that role he helped grow the ham group by sharing his knowledge and his enthusiasm to keep ham radio fresh with new innovations.    Joe also helped form Isanti County Skywarn.  For many of us Joe was our Elmer.

Outside of ham radio, Joe was a Board Member at Recycled Lives to help people in poverty. He was dedicated in helping others and public service.  Anyone who knew him would instantly know that Joe was one of those rare people who you needed in your life.   He will be deeply missed.

73’s Joe!
